The Foundation

Our History

The Cricket Island Foundation was founded in 2001 following the sale of the family business that had been established over 40 years ago by David Welles Sr.  He and his wife, Georgia, created the Foundation as a collective family enterprise that nurtured leadership among multiple generations of family members.  The Foundation cultivated the family's commitment to social responsibility and manifested the family values of fairness and integrity.  Most importantly, the Foundation aimed to maximize its impact on grantees, funders, and society.

Today, the board is comprised of three generations of family members, ranging in age from 18 to 79.  All family members who are board members have made a financial contribution to the Foundation, a contribution intended to empower them as vested board members, who collectively define the Foundation's direction.
